Students Speak-out on Thursday
Students say No to violence
Violence in our communities has been an issue for many years, but today, Otago Polytechnic students will have chance to
express their opinion on the issue as part of the national Thursdays in Black campaign.
"For far to long, communities have just accepted violent behaviour in their home and streets, and we're calling for an
end to this." OPSA Co-President, Meegan Cloughley, said today.
"People need to understand that violent behaviour in any form should not be tolerated." Ms Cloughley continued.
And No to user-pays education
Students will also have to opportunity to enrol to vote Today as part of a drive to get students to the polling booths
and have their say on important issues.
"Political parties have many different education polices that will affect students very differently, particularly with
regard to student debt." says OPSA Co-President Ryan Ward.
"This is a chance to inform students about what's on offer to and get them enrolled to vote and have their say about the
future shape of New Zealand." Mr Ward continued.
OPSA will be holding the event in the Polytechnic Students Centre at the Forth Street campus of Otago Polytechnic.
Flyers, spot prizes and enrolment packs will be given out to students attending.
"It's a great chance for students to get involved and have their say on these issues." Both Meegan and Ryan said in
closing.
