Applications Open For NZ Discretionary Fellowships
Do you have a burning desire to complete or continue your educational/vocational training in the UK? If so, did you know
that every year, a small number of applications to both individuals and groups are approved to receive an NZ-UK Link
Foundation New Zealand Discretionary Fellowship??
Applications have just opened for the 2008-09 Fellowships and will close again at 5pm on Thursday 31 July 2008.
Anyone may apply for a New Zealand Discretionary Fellowship if they are a citizen or permanent resident of New Zealand.
The person must demonstrate the reciprocal benefit of their proposed project to both countries - and be in a position,
on completion of the Fellowship, to communicate their experiences to interested groups.
Current Fellows include agricultural editor Tim Fulton who is visiting the UK in July as part of the Guild of
Agricultural Journalists & Communicators’ jubilee celebrations this year and three choristers who are part of a tour to the UK in the same month
of the Choir of the Wellington Cathedral of St Paul. Last year, saw one of New Zealand’s most promising young portrait
painters, Freeman White, take up a residence in Edinburgh with the assistance of a Fellowship, Jade Steele attended the
London School of Musical Theatre and Wellington’s multi-cultural Kotuku Choir was helped towards its English tour.

The NZ-UK Link Foundation exists to enhance the links between the two countries, it does this through a series of
educational, cultural and vocational exchanges in a wide variety of fields, including the New Zealand Discretionary
Fellowships. Over 200 indviduals have been assisted in the 15 years since its establishment as part of New Zealand’s 150
th anniversary celebrations in 1990.
