Woodville Playcentre Warms To The Community Fund
Children at the Woodville Playcentre will be ready to face winter thanks to a grant from the Meridian Te Apiti Community
Fund.
In its¹ latest round of allocations, the community fund granted the Woodville Playcentre Committee the money required to
insulate the ceiling and under the floorboards.
Woodville Playcentre Committee President Kim Sutcliffe says it is great to have the insulation installed before the
winter cold sets in.
³Our playcentre is in an old villa that has no insulation. A recent inspection from Public Health Services determined
that it needed upgrading. We decided to apply to the Meridian Te Apiti Community Fund and were delighted with their
response,² she says.
³The money from the Te Apiti Community Fund has been invaluable as it has allowed us to purchase and pay for the
installation of pink bats in the ceiling and Expol under the floor. The great thing is that we have been able to get it
installed before winter so heating the building will be much more efficient,² she added.
Local community fund panel member Peter Johns says supporting the Woodville Playcentre was a natural fit for the
community fund.
³The panel decided to fund this particular initiative as it contributes directly to the community. By insulating the
Woodville Playcentre we are helping the Committee to provide a solution to a problem that affects over 50 children,² he
says.
³The Playcentre¹s roll is continuing to rise and they are intending to increase the number of sessions they hold each
week so it is vital that the children are in a warm and comfortable environment,² he added.
The Meridian Te Apiti Community Fund is to the value of $100 000 over three years. A panel of community members and
Meridian staff work in partnership to help decide which local initiatives are supported.
The advisory panel considers a range of applications and may contribute fully to make a small project work, or it can
part-fund a bigger project to give the recipients the help they need to get moving to the next stage.
