NZEI Te Riu Roa Appoints New Leader
The country's largest education union, NZEI Te Riu Roa, has appointed Paul Goulter to its top post as National Secretary.
Paul Goulter is currently the Director of the Australian Council of Trade Unions' Education and Campaign Centre, based in Sydney. He was the Secretary of the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions from 1999 until 2003 and was previously General Secretary of Finsec, the finance sector union.
NZEI's National President Frances Nelson says Paul Goulter brings to NZEI a wealth of experience in leading unions to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
"Paul's experience of union change in Australia in the past five years and his in-depth knowledge of work and employment issues in New Zealand will be invaluable," Ms Nelson says.
NZEI's current National Secretary, Lynne Bruce, is retiring next month.
