Last chance to get creative this summer
If you’re quick, you can still enrol for one of the brilliant workshops on offer at the Summer School of the Arts, to be
held in Wanganui in January.
Coordinator Katrina Langdon, from Whanganui UCOL, says some courses are already full but a limited number of places are
still available.
Glass making workshops are a hit again this year: Workshops on Kiln Glass and Hot Glass are full but there are still
some places available in Stained Glass Lead Lighting.
Enrolments are also still being taken for Garden/Interior Design, Harmonica, Felting, Mosaic Art, Jewellery, Printmaking
and Pastel Painting. But Katrina says some of those courses only have one or two places left.
The Summer School of the Arts combines fun and learning, with plenty of social activities as well as evening lectures by
Summer School tutors. The tutors are all experts in their field and come to Wanganui from all over New Zealand, and from
Britain, the United States and Australia. The Summer School is sponsored by the Akoranga Education Trust.
This year’s programme includes some new offerings, including a workshop on harmonica playing by UK-based musician
Brendan Power, and a course on Interior and Garden design.
Katrina says most courses are designed for absolute beginners as well as those with experience who want to extend
themselves.
All workshops will be held at Wanganui Girls’ College wit the exception of Glass which will be held at Whanganui UCOL’s
main campus.
Summer School of the Arts 2008 begins on Sunday 6 January.
