Halloween in Student City
Halloween in Student
City
Palmerston North Fashion, Health and Beauty students at UCOL are working hard to put together their annual parade and show – with a difference this year.
The students are turning on their own style of trick and treat with a show on Halloween night, Wednesday 31 October, at the Globe Theatre. The show is called Halloween in Student City Fashion Parade and Show.
The treat will be the imaginative way the students will go about showing what they have learnt in the fields of fashion and beauty.
Fashion parades will feature the students’ own work and also new ranges from Palmerston North retailers Ocean and Ice and Kilt. A panel of local celebrities will judge a Recycled Wearable Arts category. The audience will also have an opportunity to pick their favourites, with a coin vote, in a ‘Junk to Funk’ section. Money raised will go towards breast cancer research.
The trick is that the students are planning to turn the tables during the night and present prizes for the best Halloween costume in the audience.
This year’s show will also feature designs entered in the recent Pasifika Fashion Awards by Bachelor of Fashion students at Whanganui UCOL.
Fashion lecturer Sheran Merrit says there’s an important reason for providing a glimpse of the work of Wanganui degree students. “We want to show what students who have completed the Certificate in Fashion, Health and Beauty in Palmerston North can achieve if they then pathway up to the full fashion degree at Whanganui UCOL.”
Halloween in Student City takes place at the Globe theatre in Palmerston North on the night of 31 October, starting at 7.30 pm. Tickets are $6, available from UCOL’s Student Resource Centre, the Vault at UCOL, Ocean and Ice on Broadway, Kilt on George Street and Arthur Toye Limited in the Square. There will also be door sales.
