Downtown Location For UCOL Info Centre
Whanganui
UCOL’s Information Centre will be operating from 15
Victoria Avenue from Monday 3 December through until the end
of February 2008. The move to the shop front location will
provide a highly visible and central location for people to
enquire about programmes and complete their enrolment
process for 2008.
Meanwhile other Whanganui UCOL staff will also be on the move, leaving their current locations at Eastown Catering, Fashion Studio 142, and the Main Campus in Campbell Street to work from the UCOL Sport and Fitness Centre on Wilson Street. These campuses will be officially closed by 21 December 2007. This will let the movers get to work and shift everything that is going onto the new campus in Taupo Quay.
Whanganui UCOL Campus Principal Suzanne Frecklington said fortunately the UCOL Sport and Fitness Centre has enough room to accommodate staff over the Christmas/January period without disrupting gym members. “The logistics of shifting are quite complex and as we finish the 2007 academic year we will pack what we need and get ready for 2008. Operating hours at the gym will not be affected and gym members can still work out as normal.
The Wanganui School of Design is also on the move, operating from the new Taupo Quay campus from February 2008. UCOL’s Project Whanganui Converge Director Jule Einhorn said the move is in some ways a surprise, as it had always been planned that the Wanganui School of Design would stay at Terrace House until the lease expired. “The change of heart has all been made possible in the last few weeks, with some staff and students indicating they want to move earlier if possible, and the likelihood of being able to find a contractor able to do the necessary work.”
Staff from the Wanganui School of Design who have been on a tour of the new campus development have been very positive and indicate that they are looking forward to their new premises. The Wanganui School of Design will be in the building on the corner of Taupo Quay and Drews Avenue. Ms Einhorn said it is a lovely building and the students should enjoy studying in this new environment.
