AUT recognises prominent New Zealanders at graduation
Distinguished New Zealand sports patron Graeme Avery and former AUT Chancellor Wyn Hoadley are being honoured by AUT
University at its Spring Graduation at North Shore City this week.
Graeme Avery, co-founder of the Millennium Institute for Sport and Health, will be conferred an honorary doctorate for
his outstanding and nationally recognised contribution to health publishing, and elite and developmental sport in New
Zealand.
Graeme Avery set up the Millennium Institute in Albany in the late 1990s with The Warehouse founder Stephen Tindall. Its
aim is to create a world class centre for excellence in sports and participation in health, recreation and fitness.
In 1997, he established Sileni Estates winery in Hawke's Bay with Chris Cowper and winemaker Grant Edmonds. In 2002 he
was honoured as North & South's New Zealander of the Year for his contribution to business, sport and tourism.
Wyn (Winifred) Hoadley will be made an honorary associate of AUT at the university's graduation on Friday. She will
receive the accolade for her significant contribution to the university over many years as a member of AUT Council and
as Chancellor from 2001 to 2005.
Barrister Wyn Hoadley is an Auckland Regional Councillor and chair of its finance committee. She is a former North Shore
City councillor and was mayor of Takapuna City from 1986 to 1989. She is patron and trustee for various North Shore
performing arts, sport and community organisations.
She holds the New Zealand Suffrage Centennial Medal 1993 and the New Zealand 1990 Commemoration Medal and is a Companion
of the Queen's Service Order for Public Services (QSO).
Graeme Avery and Wyn Hoadley will join more than 1400 graduands at AUT's largest ever spring graduation. AUT's four
conferment ceremonies are being held over two days at Takapuna's Bruce Mason Centre on Thursday October 12 and Friday
October 13.
Author and tutor at NorthTec Michael Mullany will be conferred Doctor of Philosophy with his doctoral thesis entitled:
'The Use Of Analyst-User Cognitive Style Differentials To Predict Aspects Of User Satisfaction With Information
Systems'.
