New Scholarship For First Year Tertiary Students
Mike Pero Mortgages has announced it is offering a new tertiary scholarship for first year students that will provide
one successful applicant with $10,000.
The Scholarship Programme is the first initiative of the recently launched Mike Pero Foundation, which has been created
to deliver programmes that will benefit the community.
Chief Executive Jeff Staniland says the team at Mike Pero Mortgages recognises the importance of tertiary education for
young New Zealanders.
“Education is vital in preparing young New Zealanders to enter a growing knowledge-based economy.”

people to make life-long friends.”
Jeff Staniland says they realise that the costs of a quality tertiary education can be prohibitive for many prospective
students.
“With student debt now well over $8b dollars, we want to give a number of students a head start to ensure they can
realise their full potential. We feel that by offering the Mike Pero Foundation Scholarship Programme we can help ease
the financial burden on a number of students who show a real dedication to their studies.”
The Mike Pero Scholarship Programme is a nationwide programme for New Zealand citizens aged 17-25 years old who are
intending to embark on a variety of tertiary study areas at a recognised New Zealand tertiary institution.
Prospective students and Mike Pero Mortgages customers who know of someone that might benefit from the Mike Pero
Foundation Scholarship Programme should visit www.mikepero.co.nz (key word ‘scholarship’) where they can view the
criteria in full and complete a downloadable application form.
A panel consisting of Jeff Staniland, Mike Pero, a NZ Principals Federation representative and a NZ School Trustees
Association representative, will select the successful applicant.
Applications for the 2007 Mike Pero Foundation Scholarship Programme are open until 29 September 2006. The successful
recipients will be announced in late October.
