Triple Win for NZ Secondary Students Choir
Stopping off on their way to the World Choral Olympics in Xiamen, China, the 50-voice New Zealand Secondary Students’
Choir took part in the Hong Kong International Youth and Children’s Choirs Festival – and scooped the pool.
For their win, the Choir was awarded US$10,000 prize money.
The New Zealanders competed against 41 choirs from around the world and won the Folk Song section, the Youth Choir
section and then won the coveted Choir of the World section.
Musical Director Elise Bradley said the result was “absolutely fantastic and a great achievement for these kids. They’ve
come so far in just over a year together and in only five rehearsal workshops. They’re outstanding, their behaviour is
exemplary, and they’re totally commited to excellence in all they do. I’m very proud of them, as should be all New
Zealanders. ”
“This augurs well for the Choral Olympics. We’re up against 300 choirs in that competition so we don’t want to peak with
this performance – we want to build on this experience and get better so as to further excel in Xiamen. That’s our
objective,” said Ms Bradley.
