New Rector heralds new era at St Patrick’s College Silverstream
St Patrick’s College Silverstream is pleased to announce the appointment of new rector, Philip Mahoney, in its 75th Jubilee year.
Philip comes to St Patrick’s College Silverstream after 5½ years as Principal of Sacred Heart College in Auckland, and brings a wealth of experience in education and business to St Patrick’s College Silverstream. He has 21 years experience in the education field and has held positions as the Deputy Principal of both St Patrick’s College Wellington and Gisborne Boys’ High School. Philip holds a Masters degree in Educational Leadership, a Post Graduate Diploma in Theology and Spirituality, and a Bachelor of Science. A former member of the Society of Mary now laicized, he has also spent time in Brazil as a missionary and ESOL teacher and translator.
“The Board of Trustees and Board of Proprietors of St Patrick’s College Silverstream are delighted to have made such a significant appointment for the College in our 75th anniversary year,” says Board of Trustees Chairperson, Elaine Hines. “We received a number of high calibre applicants and Philip was appointed from a short list of five, all who have outstanding leadership qualities. After 75 years providing high quality education to young men at Silverstream we are looking forward to Philip taking the helm of the College to lead our students and staff into this new era.”
Philip will take up his position as Rector in September, at the end of Term 3, just prior to the College’s 75th reunion over Labour Weekend (October 20 - 23).
St Patrick’s College Silverstream currently has a capped roll of 680 students, including a vibrant onsite boarding school. The boarding school is also hosting a free “Try Boarding” weekend on July 22 & 23, a fun opportunity for all Year 8 & 9 boys to experience living like a boarder, try out the full weekend programme, and talk to current boarders and staff about what life is really like as a boarder at St Patrick’s College Silverstream today.
