Think you’ve got what it takes to hook up a recording session at Kog Transmission Studios?
Boost Mobile is giving secondary school students the chance to show off their musical skills and be in to win the
‘chance of a life time’ recording session at one of New Zealand’s top studios.
The Boost Mobile High School Hook Up competition is open to musicians and bands around the country. Entrants simply have
to create a new track by giving their interpretation of what it means to “hook up” in their community in Aotearoa.
“Boost Mobile has always been a keen supporter of emerging NZ music and High School Hook Up is a perfect way to give
students a helping hand to kick-start their music careers,” says Telecom Mobile Consumer Marketing Manager, Raelene
Castle.
“We first initiated the Hook Up theme nearly three years ago. Now it’s time for something new and refreshing that
reflects how youth view ‘Hooking Up’ today.”
Entries open 11th June and students will have seven weeks to create their track, which must include the words ‘boost’
and ‘hook up’ somewhere in the lyrics. Once the track has been laid down, students can upload their entry onto
www.highschoolhookup.co.nz or send an Mpeg, CD or Tape to HSHU Competition, c/o T/C, P O Box 9440, Wellington. All music
genres are welcome and full entry details are available on the website.
To help entrants out, renowned emerging band Falter, who are currently touring secondary schools as part of the Boost
Mobile NZ Schools Tour, are recording a track which will be available online for entrants to check out. The site will
also offer advice and guidance from other top bands and musicians.
Entries will close on 29 July and at that point a panel of judges will have the difficult task of deciding an overall
winner. The panel includes leading music industry heavyweights Cath Anderson CEO of NZ Music Industry Commission, 91ZM’s
Night Show Host Stu Tolan, Universal Music Managing Director Adam Holt and Brad Carter from Steriogram.
The winners will be flown to Auckland where they will be holed up at Kog Transmissions Studio with the award winning
production team Doom Raiders to record their track. Also included in the prize is tuition in Logic music production
programme, full mastering of the track, CD artwork by Saatchi & Saatchi and the pressing of 500 CDs. Total prize package is valued at $15,000.
All entries will be available on www.highschoolhookup.co.nz, so music fans everywhere can vote for their favourite
track. The track with the most votes will take away the coveted ‘People’s Choice Award’ and the winner will receive an
iMac 2.0GHz Intel Core Duo with 20” screen and a Helix Board 12 Mixer courtesy of Jansen.
And there’s something in it for the schools as well. The secondary school attended by the winning band will also receive
a Phonic Powerpack 640 Sound system including Powerpod 620 Mixer, 2 x 12” speakers, 6 x Audiotechnica Microphones from
Jansen to the value of $3500.
