900k for Hawkes bay students
Summer is looking good for local Hawkes Bay Students using Student Job Search with student earnings having past $900,000.
The tertiary employment service, based at EIT Campus in Taradale has placed students into work from the first of October last year that will earn them over $900,000 of the 05/06 summer.
“The support from local businesses has been excellent, with SJS working with the local Hawkes Bay Chamber of commerce to improve the linkages between SJS and industry “said Barry Dowell, Regional Manager of Student Job Search.
“Student Job Search is now the third income support measure for tertiary students says” Mr Dowell. The non profit organisation, which is funded by student associations and government via Study Link, provides a free service to both students and employers alike.
“The local SJS staff have worked really hard and been very busy this summer and the results are very pleasing. The summer has been a mixed bag with the traditionally busy month of November not as good as last year, but followed by a very busy December,” said Mr Dowell
“Assisting students into course related work was a high priority as well easing the local skills shortages that Hawkes bay small and medium sized businesses were facing ” said Mr Dowell.
Mr Dowell commented that “ the money earned by students this summer was great, but the non profit organisation still needed more jobs, many students worked full time up to Christmas, and have had the past few weeks off with there families and we will be expecting more students coming through for work from this week.”
