Council Pays Tribute to Enduring Contribution
The Chief Executive or Tumuaki of Te Wãnanga o Aotearoa, Dr Rongo Wetere, has offered his resignation, effective immediately, from that post and his offer has been accepted.
Dr Rongo Wetere created Te Wãnanga o Aotearoa to provide a second chance education for all who needed it. Since 1993 many thousands of students have seized that opportunity and moved on to further education and productive working lives.
That they have done so is a tribute to his vision and the energy he used to ensure that vision became a reality. Te Wãnanga o Aotearoa provides an opportunity to learn in a Maori environment and within a framework of Maori values that is open to all. That is his unique contribution to tertiary education in this country. It is a contribution that Te Wãnanga o Aotearoa is determined and confident will continue.
All legal proceedings between the Council, Dr Wetere and others have now ended.
The Council will make no further comment on this matter.
