PRESS RELEASE.
1st August, 2004
PTA Week – PTAs To Celebrate
The New Zealand Parent Teacher Association has developed a ‘School Cookie’ which schools sell as a fund raising opportunity.
The selling time for these School Cookies is the 3rd week of August.
To tie in with this we have, for a number of years, designated that time as P.T.A. Week.
This year that is the 15th – 21st August.
PTA organizations around the country are celebrating their achievements during this week
Attention School Staff, Principals and Boards of Trustees!!!!!!!
Now is the time to be able to celebrate the tireless work of the volunteers within schools who are putting in many hours of work to make your schools a better place for children to be and congratulate them publicly.
It is the time that our NZPTA School Cookies are being sold – which gives extra money to the school and also help NZPTA with their finances.
PTAs themselves are celebrating through many and varied activities such as:
- Wacky Walk To School Wednesday – parents and children dress up and walk to school amidst laughter and excitement of doing something different.
- A group of PTA people from an area getting together and going out for supper
- Presenting ‘seriously committed’ PTA people – past and present – with NZPTA certificates. The National Executive of NZPTA are calling for nominations from schools around the country to recognize someone in particular who has gone that extra mile. Maybe they have been there for years, maybe they are the driving force behind the PTA.
“We would like to publicly recognize the work these people put in.” says President Diane O’Sullivan.
Staff, Principals and Boards should be thanking those involved and celebrating having such committed parents – not only to fundraising – but to all the other activities that go on around the school and for taking an interest in their own and others’ children’s education by
- Having a morning tea in their honour
- A ‘coffee and dessert’ evening for those parents who work outside the home during the day
- A concert put on by the children with emphasis on their parents
- The showing of an appropriate power point presentation by the children featuring their parents being involved in their activities around the school – also celebrates some of the exciting things that happen!!!!!!!!
- A special assembly to show children how much they owe these wonderful people
- A family ‘fish and chip’ night – all in the hall together
- A story-telling evening – parents and children cuddling up to listen
Let’s all celebrate PTA week – 16th – 20th August
