Breeze through Year 11 exams with unique study guides
Year 11 students will be relieved to learn that Pearson Education New Zealand will be launching the best ever range of NCEA curriculum linked study guides during August to help them revise for end of year exams.
“Even though this is the fourth year of NCEA, a lot of students and their parents are still uncertain about how to prepare for the exams and how to get a good result,” says Pearson Education Managing Director Rosemary Stagg.
“We believe that Pass with Pearson will make everything straightforward and help students gain results their families will be proud of,” she says.
The company realised a year after the introduction of NCEA year 1 that students were being given exam papers that reflected the unique mix of Achievement Standards.
But as it is up to the students and their schools to decide which standards they cover, any given student may have studied a different combination of standards.
“So a one-size-fits-all book is almost certain to contain some material students don’t need, and if students do not need to revise all the Standards, they are wasting money buying a revision book that covers them all,” says Pearson Education Commissioning Editor Ken Harrop.
So the idea for ‘Pass with Pearson’, revision resources targeted at individual Standards or closely related groups, was born.
The books are priced at $14.95 each and come in 20 different topics over six subjects: English, Maths, Science, Geography, History and Economics.

Each was written by a reputable New Zealand author who is a practising teacher with wide experience in preparing students for NCEA exams, and in many cases involvement in NCEA development, marking, or moderating.
‘Pass with Pearson’ books differ from other study guides by providing a combination of core content on specific subjects, exam techniques, model answers, revision and study advice and a CD Rom that contains interactive exercises and advice on using the NZQA website to find out further essential information.
“Students and their caregivers will find ‘Pass with Pearson’ ideal for a personalised revision programme to match their personal subject choices for end of year exams,” says Mr Harrop.
And Pearson Education isn’t stopping with Year 11.
“Next year we intend to introduce new resources at Level 1 for subjects not yet covered and selected resources at Level 2 (Year 12) and in 2007 we aim for further expansion outwards and upwards to Level 3,” he says.
“At Pearson Education we're responsible for helping children learn and the ‘Pass with Pearson’ series was created to fulfil that role within the education community.”
