MIT Hosts Major Hospitality and Catering Festival
Manukau Institute of Technology is set to host up to 200 hospitality and catering students from the Auckland region for the Junior Food & Beverage Competition Fest 2005 in July.
Competitors are students undertaking tertiary training or those under 25 years with less than three years industry experience who will compete in 19 categories across cookery, hospitality (restaurant, cocktails, barista), meat retailing, and bakery and patisserie disciplines.
The Junior Food & Beverage Competition Fest is a new event which takes place on July 10 and 11 and encompasses three competitions reflecting the breadth of industry training available at MIT.
The event includes the Auckland Young Butcher of the Year Competition, which has had its base at MIT for many years, and the inaugural Junior Baking and Patisserie Competition which has been developed by MIT’s School of Baking and Patisserie.
The cookery and hospitality competitions, being held at CHATS (Catering and Hospitality Studies) at MIT, make up the Auckland Junior Culinary Fare. This annual competition is hosted by one of Auckland’s hospitality and catering tertiary training providers in conjunction with the Restaurant Association of New Zealand.
Event organiser Susan Shackleton says MIT is proud to host this major event. “We’re very excited to be able to use the excellent facilities and commitment of teaching staff at all three schools to showcase the talents of today’s upcoming industry professionals."
Competitors in the Junior Food & Beverage Competition Fest 2005 are encouraged to compete at the New Zealand Culinary Fare held at the Auckland Showgrounds in August.
