Early childhood teachers keen to be registered
Two hundred early childhood teachers are in the process of becoming registered at Kidicorp owned and operated early
childhood centres throughout New Zealand.
Qualified early childhood teachers are now encouraged to become registered, certifying they are satisfactorily trained,
and suitable to teach young children. Education specialists agree that registration and professionalism are key to
quality early childhood education.
Registration is a two year process. It consists of an advice and guidance programme which develops and clarifies the
expertise and responsibilities of teachers through a series of courses and meetings, professional feedback and
mentoring.
Cherie Boyd, Kidicorp’s professional development manager, designed the advice and guidance programme the qualified
teachers are undertaking
“It is a privilege that parents entrust their young children to us, sometimes for long periods of time each day. We
therefore play a big part in the lives of their children.
“As the education standards in early childhood increase, childcare services are no longer considered only care-based.
The service we provide, at such a formative time, must be a quality service and well-suited to the values and
requirements of the family,” says Cherie Boyd.
Kidicorp, with 75 centres, is New Zealand’s largest operator of private early childhood centres, each reflecting the
particular needs of the community in which it operates.
