Waiariki Assists Students Through Scholarships
There were smiles all around as twenty-two Waiariki Institute of Technology students were presented with scholarships to assist them with their studies from the Waiariki Council.
Two different scholarships were presented at the last Council meeting held at Waiariki at the end of February. The 14 recipients of the 25th Anniversary Scholarship each receive $500. These scholarships were introduced to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Waiariki Community College. The Waiariki Women's Suffrage Centennial Scholarship was established in 1993 to commemorate Women's Suffrage Centennial Year in New Zealand. The successful recipients receive $7000 between them with students receiving $1000 or $500 each.
Both of these scholarships are open to students who are completing, or have completed at least one full year of study at Waiariki.
In addition to these awards, Waiariki supports students through a number of scholarship programmes. Secondary School Scholarships are available to school leavers and Pathways to Jobs Scholarships are being offered for the first time in 2005.
