New Technology Centre Marks a Resurgence in Trades Training at CPIT
The new technology centre at CPIT’s Sullivan Avenue campus will be officially opened on Thursday 10th March by the Hon. Jim Anderton, Minister for Economic, Industry and Regional Development.
The purpose built facility, equipped with state-of-the-art machinery, houses workshops, classrooms and special purpose areas for motor industry and engineering trades. It consolidates engineering, electrical and building trades on one site and marks the advent of Sullivan Avenue as the home for CPIT’s Trades Innovation Institute (TII).
Throughout the day local schools will be given a tour of the new facilities and attend a presentation given by Inzone; a touring show that helps motivate young people to follow their dreams by sharing the experiences of New Zealand icons and personalities.
The official opening takes place at 7.00pm and will be attended by local employers, representatives from Industry Training Organisations, as well as people who have been closely involved in bringing the project to fruition.
“The opening of the new technology centre is testament to CPIT’s commitment to trades training and education, and evidence that a career as a skilled tradesperson still has relevance in today’s economy,” said Fiona Haynes, Dean of the Trades Innovation Institute.
