Student earnings reach 1 million
Student Job Search Hawkes Bay has placed students into work that will earn them over 1 million dollars during the 04/05 summer.
Regional Manager, Barry Dowell stated that he was “delighted with the result this summer, the support from both the local community and businesses had been excellent.”
Long term duration jobs (full time work of 4 weeks or more) are up around 50% in the Hawkes bay. “Support from the local businesses had been very strong, particularly in the retail and hospitality sectors, and this had been very evident in the substantial growth in longer term work being placed by Student Job Search,” said Mr Dowell.
Student Job Search Hawkes Bay had seen an increase in both the more skilled work such as, IT jobs, auto cad, web design and in the traditional jobs in the service industry.
The non profit organisation, which is funded by both student associations and government via study link, provides a free service to both students and employers alike. “SJS is certainly part of the culture of student life, many students gain their first work experience via SJS, “said Mr Dowell.
SJS operates two offices in the Hawkes Bay, a year- round office from EIT in Taradale, and a summer office from Hastings.
