Student Rush
Student Job Search Manawatu has faced a rush of students into their Palmerston North regional office in the past 10
days.
As Massey University students have finished their exams Student Job Search Manawatu has had an influx of students
looking for summer work.
Regional Manager, Barry Dowell said “enrolments into Student Job Search here were up 15% on last years figures and with
that places an increased demand for summer work. Student Job Search was keen to hear from employers, big or small, be in
the household sector, gardening, painting, lawn mowing, through to ongoing work on a part time/ full time work in the
small and medium sized business sector”.
November is traditionally a busy month for the employment agency which provides an employment service to students
studying in the University and Polytechnics. “In the next week many returning students will be arriving into the
Manawatu region, from studying at other institutions and this places an even greater demand on Student Job Search said
Mr Dowell.”
“Many students study full time and have an on going part time job through the year, but also look for extra work or
another part time job. It’s really important for students at this time to secure work, says Mr Dowell, many students
don’t received a student allowance and the summer holidays are there only opportunity to secure funds which can make the
difference if they are back in studying again, next year.”
Student Job Search, a non profit organisation which celebrated its 21st this year and is a totally free service to both
employers and students alike.
