Gisborne's Tairawhiti Polytech investigation NOT conducted by Tertiary Education Commission
National's Education spokesperson, Bill English, is incorrect in his claims that the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) wrote a report on community education at Gisborne's Tairawhiti Polytechnic which he claims overlooked 2,000 invalid enrolments.
'Firstly, the report on Tairawhiti's community education was not written by the TEC," says Max Kerr, TEC Manager Liaison and Development. "Tairawhiti Polytechnic commissioned an independent auditor to undertake the investigation and write the report in May. It is Tairawhiti Polytechnic's report, not the TEC's."
"Secondly, invalid enrolments were discovered by Tairawhiti Polytechnic in January this year and the Polytechnic revised its funding claim to the TEC at that time. These invalid enrolments had been appropriately dealt with months before the May independent audit was ever commissioned by Tairawhiti Polytechnic. "
