Budget gets 40% mark
Student Teachers today have said that the Government’s budget gets a 40% mark for its positive impact on students.
“The budget is heading in the right direction,” said Henderson “it does not, however, even start addressing the inequalities that the Government has inflicted on students for the last 12 years,” said Henderson.
“The Minister has acknowledged the Bill of Rights through the dropping of the ability for married couples to be considered independent,” said Henderson “the Bill of Rights, however, also states that people shall not be discriminated based on age, and yet he has done nothing to address this,” said Henderson.
“People at the age of 18 do not and should not have to rely in their parents for financial support,” said Henderson “we are not asking for much, just to be treated like any other New Zealander who is unemployed,” said Henderson.
“New Zealanders should not have to borrow money just to pay for their rent, food and other necessities of life,” said Henderson “and this includes students.”
