Rural Communities Trust - University Scholarships for Rural Students
The Rural Communities Trust and Transpower NZ Ltd have announced the Transpower Tertiary Scholarship grants for rural students for 2004.
The grants are to assist young people from rural areas seeking tertiary qualifications and can be used for a range of student's tertiary expenses.
Trust Chairman Denis Hazlett said: "The Trust recognises that the extra travel and distance from family that rural students face can be a barrier to tertiary education and feedback from past recipients indicates that this funding makes a real difference for the students.”
The total awarded this year to the seven recipients is $10,000, with individual grants of between $1,000 and $1,500.
The successful students are: Tracey Anderson, Eltham - Bachelor of Arts & Bachelor of Business; Caleb Hill, Taupiri - Bachelor of Health Science (Physiotherapy); Julia Newton, Urenui. Bachelor of Physiotherapy; Rikishon Roberts, Oxford - Bachelor of Information & Communication Technologies; Jeremy Stevens, Makauri - Bachelor of Engineering Technology; Jacqueline White, Gisborne - Bachelor of Commerce & Administration; Rebecca Willy, Eltham - Bachelor of Arts.
Successful applicants must be from a rural background, have a proven academic record, a commitment to study, and successfully demonstrate an ability to balance study with sport or recreation.
