One of the world's best known family psychologists is coming to NZ
Steve Biddulph, author of "Raising Boys" and the "Secrets of Happy Children" will be speaking in Auckland on 1 and 2 May
2004. Steve's honest, simple and powerful books are in 4 million homes in 27 languages around the world. Awkward
looking, fallible, blunt, silly and yet somehow unforgettable, Steve stands up for the values of love and community in a
world gone mad with greed and fear. Over one hundred thousand people have already attended his talks in 22 countries and
received the benefit of Steve's practical parenting advice. Steve will present two talks in NZ at the Hyatt Regency
Auckland, the first aimed at early childhood teachers and the second for parents and caregivers.
Saturday 1 May 9.00 am Early Childhood Council Conference Keynote Address "Raising Boys" Everyone who has boys today is
concerned for them. We all want to raise our boys into confident, safe, positive and caring men. To do this you have to
understand the special nature of boys. What part do fathers play? What must mothers understand? What must carers know
about making a centre boy friendly? Why are boys more at risk for separation anxiety and the "sad/angry boy syndrome?"
Sunday 2 May 1.00pm Workshop for parents and caregivers "The Secret of Happy Children" This powerful, moving and
hilarious talk reminds you why you had kids in the first place. It's practical, and helps you see new and better ways to
be with your family. It's also inspirational, lifting you up in a sense of community with all parents worldwide. Topics
include: Understand the stages of childhood Work out your parenting style Discipline - it's not what you think How to
get children to change How to make sure your love gets through Quality time is a lie Living in the present where your
kids are
