Business NZ welcomes NCEA 'report card'
Business NZ says ERO's report card on the NCEA is useful both for highlighting where the NCEA is succeeding as well as
pointing to areas for improvement.
Chief Executive Simon Carlaw says the flexible and broad nature of the NCEA is supported by the business community
because it enables young people to study programmes at school which fit with ongoing learning in the workplace - 72% of
schools have expanded the range of programmes on offer as part of implementing NCEA.
"The NCEA results clearly identify the areas in our school system needing improvement, and where we are doing well," Mr
Carlaw said.
"The focus should now go on ensuring that all school leavers attain at least NCEA Level 1, including the critical
literacy and numeracy standards, as the beginning of a strategy to raise workforce skills and contribute to higher
living standards for all New Zealanders."
