Mark Harrison's Book Shows Choice Is Best
"It is no accident that many of New Zealand's best state schools are in regions where independent schools are thriving," says Joy Quigley, Executive Director of Independent Schools of New Zealand.
"Mark Harrison, author of the recently released book "Education Matters: Government, Markets and New Zealand Schools", puts a very strong case for promoting efficient independent or private schooling."
"Now that the Minister of Education and his Government appear to be having a few 'rethinks' on policy matters and direction perhaps they, and the educational media, will take Mr Harrison's book as required reading rather than dismissing it because it doesn't agree with the current centrist thinking."
"Mr Harrison systematically refutes all the arguments regularly trotted out against supporting choice in education and ably demonstrates that increasing choice and privatisation is a sure fire way to increasing education standards for all children."
"This is an excellent addition to the increasing literature, including the New Zealand Institute of Economic Research document released last year on "Funding Arrangements for Independent Schools in New Zealand", that shows that the Government will get improved education outcomes through increasing school choice."
