MEDIA RELEASE – 10 September 2003
NZAPEP Supports Register of Quality Assured Qualifications
“The New Zealand Association of Private Education Providers supports the NZ Register of Quality Assured Qualifications and congratulates the New Zealand Qualifications Authority and other government agencies that were instrumental in its development.
The Association sees the website as being very useful to both students and providers and a much needed resource.
The Associate Minister of Education (Tertiary Education) has said that there were over 5000 qualifications and almost 100 providers, and that the website would be useful for rationalising the number of courses and the number of providers.
It needs to be pointed out that it has only been in the last month or two that providers have had a direct mechanism to remove old qualifications from the Register and so there will no doubt be information that is incorrect on the Register until such time as the providers actually update their data.
NZAPEP has always stood for quality education, not only in the course itself but also in the delivery mechanisms and expects that any rationalisation will apply equally to both public sector and private providers, so that students may choose provider and course which best suits their individual needs.”
