Ch-ch Polytech adds another award to bulging food trophy cabinet
Christchurch Polytechnic (CPIT) has added another national accolade to its bulging food trophy cabinet.
The polytech has the best chef training tutors in the country according to the New Zealand Chefs Association.
The CPIT’s School of Food and Hospitality chef tutors were named Training Providers of the Year at the recent New Zealand Chefs Association national conference in Rotorua.
The inaugural award - a carved waka - was nominated by chefs in industry and other training institutes.
``The secret of their success lies in their collaboration as a team. They are extremely effective and very impressive,’’ food sector head Stuart Goodall said.
``Students gain experience working with industry and famous chefs in function areas. They frequently host conferences, competitions, and visitors on campus.
One of the students, Glenn Wright, has already been named 2002-2003 South Island Commis Chef of the Year.
Another student, Amy Beth-Hines, was last year named NZ Commis Chef of the Year and represented New Zealand at the World Junior Chefs Challenge.
Two years ago another CPIT Hamish Brown was named the NZ Commis Chef and NZ Chef of the Year.
Neil McInnes won the Inaugural Culinarian of the Year presented by NZ Chefs Association last year.
The CPIT food and hospitality school recently also won the New Zealand Qualifications Authority’s tertiary teaching excellence award earlier.
They have a proud record of training success and have won dozens of awards in recent years in recognition of its reputation as a leading national food and hospitality trainer.
