‘Code Revisions work for both Students and Industry’
‘The strengthened Code of Practice for International students will improve the quality of experience for students’ says
Robert Stevens, Chief Executive of Education New Zealand, the national body established to facilitate the promotion of
New Zealand as a study destination and assist educational institutions in showcasing their capabilities. ‘The Ministry
of Education has undertaken a robust consultation process and the finalised code reflects the very useful input that
institutions made during the consultation’.
The Code of Practice sets a baseline for the pastoral care of international students, and the recent revision
strengthens and improves the Code. In particular, it extends the Code provisions to short term students, and clarifies
some anomalies in the original Code.
‘The Code of Practice is an important marketing tool for New Zealand, as well as a safeguard for students’ says Mr
Stevens. ‘We have an excellent reputation for our pastoral care and the Code recognises and reinforces that in the eyes
of prospective students.’
‘The industry itself is very focussed on improving quality at all levels, because this is the basis of our international
competitiveness. Most institutions use the Code as a baseline, and have already put in place systems and support that go
beyond those set down by the Government. The industry is working in partnership with Government to further build upon
our reputation as an international education provider of choice’ concluded Mr Stevens.
