NZEI Welcomes New Teachers Council Chair
Wellington – NZEI Te Riu Roa welcomes the appointment of Joanna Beresford as the new chair of the New Zealand Teachers Council.
“Joanna brings a wealth of experience to the position,” says NZEI Te Riu Roa National President, Bruce Adin.
“As well as a strong grasp of industrial issues relating to education, her years of service as Assistant Secretary and National Secretary of NZEI Te Riu Roa has given her a thorough understanding of the professional requirements of teaching.”
“I would be hard pressed to think of a more suitable person to fill this demanding position at such a critical time in the short life of the Teachers Council.”
“The council has had many difficulties and challenges to meet since it was established 16 months ago but it is vital for the professional future of teaching that it succeed.”
“Joanna’s appointment is an important step towards ensuring the council is a success
as she has the strong leadership skills required to take the organisation forward.”
“NZEI Te Riu Roa congratulates the Government, especially the Minister of Education, for the courage and vision he has shown in making this appointment,” says Bruce Adin.
