Duffy Students Receive Top New Zealand Children's Books
Students at Duffy schools throughout New Zealand who have shown great effort in reading and writing will be rewarded
this week by New Zealand Post with award-winning New Zealand children's books as part of the Books in Homes literacy
programme.
Between 19-23 May, four deserving students from each of the 429 schools participating in the Books in Homes programme
will receive copies of two finalist books from the New Zealand Post Children's Book Awards as part of the New Zealand
Post Award for Great Effort in Reading and Writing.
The books include The Dragon's Apprentice by Linda McNabb and Why Do Dogs Sniff Bottoms? by Dawn McMillan and Bert
Signal, which was the winner of the popular Children's Choice Award.
Kate Jackson, External Relations Advisor of New Zealand Post says that Books in Homes, part of the Alan Duff Charitable
Foundation, is an excellent programme aimed at breaking the cycle of 'booklessness' for children from decile one, two
and three schools throughout New Zealand.
"New Zealand Post is committed to building literate communities and Books in Homes encourages New Zealand children to
not only read and write but also to enjoy books.
"New Zealand Post is proud to support Books in Homes and reward Duffy schools and students by giving them books by New
Zealand's top writers and illustrators," she said.
