Budget initiatives need to match the Tertiary Education Strategy
The Aotearoa Tertiary Students' Association (ATSA) believes that an effective way to make sense of this afternoon's
budget [as it relates to education] is to read it in tandem with the Tertiary Education Strategy.
"Over the past three years, this government has appeared to consult widely with most stakeholders in the sector," ATSA
President Julie Pettett stated today. "The acid test for the worth of that consultation was always going to be how the
words translated in action."
"Matching budget funding with each of the tertiary education strategies and objectives is the only sensible way to test
the worth of all the talk this government and sector has engaged in," Pettett concluded. "Students and the wider
community have the right to expect there will be some clear relationships between this budget and that strategy."
