Survey Shows Tech Tchrs Want Action!
“Over 90% of technology and other non degree teachers now feel disappointed, devalued and demoralised,” Maggie Lovekin,
spokesperson for the Pay Disparity group said today. She was releasing the results of a sample survey done by her group
of approximately 2,000 teachers affected.
“Those surveyed felt disappointed in the lack of support from their union colleagues despite the way non degree teachers
had supported the PPTA campaign last year. They feel devalued by their employer, the Labour Government and demoralised
by the process of winning equivalence and then having it robbed from them,” said Maggie Lovekin.
“When asked what action they were prepared to take, 0ver 60% said they would stop taking voluntary extra curricular
activities including sport and drama. Less than 50% said they would withhold NCEA grades. 75% said they would resign
from their Union.”
“Half the teachers surveyed felt that there had not been adequate representation of their concerns to their employers.”
said Maggie Lovekin. “25% said that their Board had been approached and were supportive but could do little to help.”
“As more teachers are receiving rejection notices from the Ministry of Education for their qualifications they naturally
want to see action from their representatives,” said Maggie Lovekin. “96% called on our group in Term 2, to provide
leadership in such action and this we intend to do.”.
