Urgent - campus anti-war rally
The Middle East Collective and Anti-Capitalist Alliance are organising an antiwar rally on Friday at 12noon outside the central library.
Because this is an emergency antiwar rally, we have little time to organise. It is very likely that US/British missiles and bombs will be raining down on Iraq before then.
MidEast Collective and ACA members are getting together today at 3.15 in the Hight Cafe to begin organising the rally. We know this is very short notice and so only a handful of people may be able to make 3.15, but we'll have another get-together tomorrow at the same time for those who miss today.
The most urgent thing is to begin publicising the event. We have speakers from the MidEast Collective and ACA lined up, plus David Small from the Education Dept and we will be trying to get Ola Kamel from the Mosque.
I am currently doing up a poster, which can go to the printer this afternoon and we should have ready to go up tomorrow.
We need people urgently for: chalking main thoroughfares around varsity announcing the rally at the start of lectures and/or writing the details on the whiteboards (use instantly erasable markers or you face a huge fine) getting lecturers to announce the rally at lectures and to email students about it postering the campus making placards
If you can help with any of these, email me back asap as I can provide details.
Also, if anyone on this list has access to free photocopying some of that would be extremely helpful. The ACA can front up some cash for posters, but we need to run off a lot of strips advertising the rally as well. We could probably fit three or four per A4 sheet, so 250 A4 sheets would be a thousand strips, and come in extremely useful.
