What is Te Rau Matatini?
Te Rau Matatini is a national Mäori Mental Health workforce development organisation funded by the Ministry of Health,
headed by Professor Mason Durie and governed by a board of 16 Mäori from the wider mental health sector.
Why was Te Rau Matatini established?
To cope with growing need for effective mental health services for the Mäori community, with the aim to contribute by
developing the Mäori mental health workforce on a national scale. Te Rau Matatini has been established to ensure that
Mäori mental health consumers have access to a well prepared and well qualified Mäori mental health workforce.
What does Te Rau Matatini plan to do?
Te Rau Matatini is currently undertaking an assessment of training needs of the Mäori mental health workforce with a
survey, so that they can design and deliver training to kai mahi in 2003.

Where is Te Rau Matatini based?
Te Rau Matatini is based at Te Pütahi ä Toi , School of Mäori Studies– Massey University, in Palmerston North.
How will the survey influence the training?
The survey will inform training content by ensuring relevance to the existing Mäori mental health workforce.
Who is entitled to fill out the survey?
Any Mäori person working in the mental health sector can fill out the survey.

When will the survey findings be available?
The findings will be available online at www.matatini.co.nz from October, or if you don’t have internet access call them
