AUT STUDENTS CONGRATULATE OUTSTANDING TEACHER
AuSM congratulates Auckland University of Technology lecturer Welby Ings, who won the top prize at the Tertiary Teaching Excellence Awards.
AuSM, the Auckland University of Technology's Students' Association, is delighted that an AUT lecturer has been recognised and that Mr Ings took the Prime Minister's Supreme Award at the awards ceremony last night.
Damien Knowles, a student in his final year of graphic design, praised Mr Ings teaching style. "He's just so easy and approachable and always willing to help. He's usually really busy, but always seems to have time for you. Everyone goes to see him for advice", he says
Not only is Mr Ings a dedicated lecturer, he is a talented one. "He's unreal. By far the best lecturer I've ever had. He's so well read, he's like an ideas factory", says Damien.
For AuSM President David Victor, the recognition of outstanding tertiary teachers has been a long time coming.
"For years our tertiary institutions have been judged solely on the strength of their research", he says. "It is gratifying that AUT, which puts such a lot of emphasis on effective teaching, has been recognised in this manner."
Eleven awards were given at the Tertiary Teaching Excellence awards, where Mr Ing took the top prize of $30,000. Ten further prizes of $20,000 were awarded to assist the recipients with career development.
