Correspondence School Primary Students To Interview Nandor Tanczos
It’s not every day a primary student gets the chance to interview a Member of Parliament.
A group of primary students from The Correspondence School will have that opportunity on Wednesday 28 March, 2002 when
they interview Nandor Tanczos.
The interview is part of the “Great Wellington Video Magazine Escapade” – a four-day camp for twenty-one Correspondence
School students in Years 4 – 10, from rural areas in the Manawatu/Wanganui region.
Correspondence School Regional Representative Sue Spiers says: “The camp brings together a whole range of students from
a wide variety of places and backgrounds. Because many of the students come from quite inaccessible and far out places
the journey to Wellington will be an event in itself.”
The students will work together to produce a video magazine of Wellington. Sue says, “Teachers and audio-visual staff
will share their knowledge and expertise with the students but ultimately it’s the students who will drive the process.”
“The video making process allows students to put curriculum skills such as communication, assertiveness, self-management
and team skills into practise while learning how to structure, film and edit a video. The video will be seen by other
Correspondence School students and will be available on the school’s website.”
On Monday afternoon students get together for a brain storming session. The next day they will learn to use the video
equipment and will start shooting footage around Wellington. On Wednesday they will record a jingle for the video and a
dance routine and will interview guest star Nandor Tanczos using questions they have written themselves. Finally, on
Thursday they will edit the video before returning home in the afternoon.
