NZSTA awards five school trustees with scholarships
It’s not just back to the classroom for students next week – five school trustees will also be hitting the books, with
the New Zealand School Trustees Association today announcing each has won a study award worth $4000.
The Crombie Lockwood/Royal & Sunalliance Study Awards are offered to school trustees who are keen to further their studies for personal or
professional development.
The winners are: Suzanne Grant, Horsham Downs School, Hamilton; Jane Heyes, Levin Intermediate School, Levin; Cromwell
College board of trustees, Cromwell; Te Waiti Rangiwai, Rangitahi College, Rotorua; and Elly Van Geel, Monrad
Intermediate School, Palmerston North.
NZSTA President Chris France says the association is delighted to assist the five recipients with their studies through
the Crombie Lockwood/Royal & Sunalliance Study Awards.
The $20,000 scholarship programme was introduced three years ago at NZSTA’s 10th birthday, which celebrated a decade of
self-governing schools. The awards are now an annual event.
Chris France says NZSTA values the generous support of insurance brokers Crombie Lockwood/Royal & Sunalliance in sponsoring the award.
“These scholarships acknowledge the huge commitment that school trustees make to New Zealand’s education system – every
year trustees give an estimated $100 million worth of their valuable time for the benefit of our children.
“The selected study programmes and chosen projects will be of significant benefit not only to each recipient of the
awards, their community and their school, but will also benefit trusteeship generally.
“School trustees bring a wide variety of skills and expertise from all walks of life. The Crombie Lockwood/Royal & Sunalliance Study Awards recognise their professionalism and offer them an opportunity for further training.”
