Rankin Decsion “Fantastic” For Students

Published: Thu 2 Aug 2001 05:08 PM
Students at the Auckland University of Technology will be elated that Christine Rankin has had her employment claims dismissed, said AUT Student Association President Glen Oliver today.
“Christine Rankin was the head of a department that caused thousands of students severe financial difficulty for an unacceptable period of time. To hear today that she has been held accountable is fantastic news for students”
“Hundreds of students at this University were directly affected by the performance of Work and Income New Zealand over this period. The simple fact is that she has to take responsibility for her actions”, said Oliver.
“The very thought that she would have received in excess of a million dollars for her proven incompetence was a scary proposition. State Services Commissioner Michael Wintringham has had the court uphold his decision not to extend her contract, and rightly so”, concluded Oliver.
