Support Excellent Teachers

If your teacher is special and deserves recognition for his/her efforts, the National Excellence in Teaching Awards (NEiTA) Foundation wants to know about them. The next cycle of ASG National Excellence in Teaching Awards begins on 1 July and the Foundation is calling for people to nominate their children's teachers.
Terry O'Connell, managing director of the Australian Scholarships Group (ASG) and chair of the NEiTA Foundation says the awards, launched in New Zealand in 1996, aim to identify and honour excellent teachers.
"We all have memories of particularly inspirational teachers that enthused and encouraged us to learn. The National Excellence in Teaching Awards acknowledges these teachers for their excellence and dedication to the profession," Mr O'Connell said.
All full-time primary, intermediate and secondary teachers are eligible for the awards, provided they have taught for a minimum of two years in New Zealand schools.
No distinction is made between teachers in state or private schools, the size of a school or the subjects taught by a teacher.
Nominations for primary and intermediate teachers must be submitted and seconded by parents of school children, and for secondary teachers by both parents and students. Nominations must be completed and returned before 31 October 2001.
Full details of nomination and selection procedures can be found in the nomination form.
NEiTA nomination kits, containing information and nomination forms, were sent to every New Zealand school in early June. Nomination forms can also be obtained from the Internet web site on www.asg.com.au or by phoning ASG on 09 373-5218.
