Lucid Magazine

The highly anticipated second issue of the independent magazine, Lucid, was released on Monday at the Victoria
University of Wellington (VUW) campus. The launch was greeted with much excitement by the student population, and the
magazine was taken by students at a phenomenal rate - a total of 4000 copies were distributed throughout the campus on
Monday morning, and by midday on Tuesday it was estimated that less than 20 remained.
Editor Neale Jones is confident of Lucid's continued success. "If you take a look around campus, you will see students
reading Lucid everywhere. What it shows is that students want to read something different, and that they want to read
Lucid," said Mr. Jones. "We've got a team of fantastic writers and artists. They really are amazing, and Lucid is a
testament to their creativity and dedication."
Deputy Editor Keith Ng said: "Naturally we're elated that the magazine has been received so well, but we are not
complacent just yet. Just as the second issue was superior to the first, so we will be pushing hard to make sure that
the third issue will be even better."
Mr. Jones adds that: "The speed with which Lucid was snapped up this issue took us all by surprise - we've never seen
magazines go that quickly. I want to be able to supply enough copies for all the students who want one next issue, and
so we will be exploring new ways of funding that."
One of these possibilities currently being considered by Lucid is to approach the VUW Student Association for funding. A
proposal is currently being put together to go before the Student Association Executive to request funding, and it is
expected that the submission as well as a meeting will occur within the next few weeks.
