Tweedsmuir Study Support Centre Opens New World To Students And Community
Tweedsmuir students and their parents are about to have new opportunities to enter the online world thanks to a new
business and Government partnership.
“Telecom is pleased to be involved in delivering bigger and better internet access to Tweedsmuir Junior High School’s
Study Support Centre as part of the Government’s newly announced Digital Opportunities Pilot,” General Manager,
Government and Industry Relations Bruce Parkes said today.
“We’re working with the Government, the school and our other partners in this project - Compaq, Microsoft, Renaissance,
TKI, Vodafone and New Zealand Post - to boost the digital opportunities to the school and its community,” he said.
Tweedsmuir Junior School is one of three South Island schools involved in the Digital Opportunities Pilot Project.
“The partners want to help improve student learning and results by providing access to Information and Communications
Technology beyond the classroom through the Study Support Centres.
“The project also aims to extend opportunities for ICT based learning to families and the wider community, by making the
most use of the Centre,” Mr Parkes said.
"Telecom is excited about the potential of the project. Working with our partners we want to get the community
interested and involved so we can spread the benefits of information and communications technology.”
