ATSA Students Praise TEAC Blueprint
“The Tertiary Education Advisory Commission (TEAC) have done a fine job of consulting the sector and setting forward a
blueprint for the future” stated Aotearoa Tertiary Student Association President Keith Clark.
“Hon Steve Maharey should also take credit for assembling a highly skilled and knowledgeable group and resourcing them
appropriately to take on an incredibly difficult task. The fact that this commission have been able to keep results
oriented throughout this process is a credit to them” said Clark.
“No one sector can expect to get everything it wants given the funding difficulties” said Clark. “However, this work if
followed through properly, will eventually create a better tertiary system for all students. ATSA is happy that students
will have ample opportunity to comment on the fine tuning process of the new blueprint”.
ATSA was pleased that the commission had taken on board requests to strengthen the charter and profile areas for
tertiary providers. “ATSA strongly represented concerns to TEAC that stakeholder interests have been ignored by a small
minority of institutions” stated Clark. “A good charter and profile should go some way towards alleviating many
problems”.
