AUT WELL PLACED TO FREEZE STUDENT FEES
“AUT is in the perfect position to accept the Governments offer of a 2.3% increase in funding to stabilise fees” Said Michael Heard, President of AuSM the AUT Students’ Association today
Mr Heards comments followed the Budget Release yesterday, where $30.5 million was earmarked for a tertiary student fee freeze.
In a recent study on the financial performance of tertiary education institutions, AUT was placed first out of all the Universities when considering surplus as a percentage of income.
“Some institutions in New Zealand may struggle to make ends meet if they accept this offer. AUT as one of the strongest financial performers in the sector and one of the only Institutions in the country forecasting significant growth in student numbers will in my opinion be able to freeze fees with no significant financial burden”
“Being in such a position, students would be very surprised and disappointed if the AUT council were to reject this offer” Concluded Mr Heard.
