Iconic Christchurch pub, the Pegasus Arms is stepping up in support of Brain Cancer Awareness Month. The May Matters
Walk is a charity event bringing people together in support of the work of the White Matter Brain Cancer Trust. The pub
is the start and finish line for the walk along The City Promenade and the Peg team is going above and beyond with their
support hosting drinks specials, all day roasts and providing music, kids activities and a great family atmosphere.
The White Matter Brain Cancer Trust was established in June of 2016 to help patients and families over the time of their
treatment. This charitable trust aims to enhance the quality of life of brain cancer sufferers by providing help,
services and experiences for them and their families. Since its formation, the Trust has assisted over 30 families and
distributed more than $120,000.
Founding Chairman, James Worthington, lost his own battle with brain cancer on 25 November 2017, aged 56. James was an
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon before retiring in 2014 and was passionate about creating the Trust to help those in
need. James also enjoyed a drink at the Pegasus Arms after work on Fridays with his colleagues from Christchurch
Hospital, making this the perfect venue for the charity walk at the end of this month.
The walk is approximately 3.8km from the Pegasus Arms to the Margaret Mahy Family Playground return and is suitable for
all ages and abilities. Come rain or shine, the Pegasus Arms is the perfect spot to spend a relaxing Sunday helping to
increase awareness and generate donations. All money raised will help provide financial assistance to brain cancer
sufferers and their families – absolutely something to be up in arms about.
