NZ Dart Masters right on target for Hamilton

Published: Fri 22 Feb 2019 09:22 AM
TICKETS for August's NZ Darts Masters tournament at the Claudelands Arena are selling fast as fans from around the country book their spots at the inaugural Hamilton event on August 23-24.
Having successfully staged PDC World Series of Darts events in Auckland for the past four years, the focus has shifted to Hamilton this year, with eight top-ranked players locking horns with the best Oceanic talent for the two-day NZ Darts Masters.
General Manager, Venues, Tourism and Major Events at Hamilton City Council, Sean Murray is urging fans to book now so they don’t miss out.
"We're excited to have this globally televised tournament coming to the Waikato and we're delighted that the fans are getting in behind the event," said Murray.
"Claudelands offers an unmatched fan experience and we expect that both fans and players will have a brilliant weekend of darts entertainment."
The PDC stars who will travel to New Zealand have yet to be announced but are likely to include former Auckland champions Michael van Gerwen and Gary Anderson as well as flamboyant Peter Wright.
Professional Darts Corporation chief executive Matthew Porter says that the move to Hamilton is already looking like a bullseye, with many of the premium seats already snapped up - not just by Waikato locals, but by fans from right around the country.
"The World Series of Darts has a massive global following and we're delighted that New Zealand continues to show its passion for the event," said Porter.
"The standard of players from Australasia increases every year and we're expecting a Kiwi to break into the top ranks at some stage soon.
"There's always a fantastic atmosphere wherever we take the World Series of Darts, and this is a brilliant opportunity for sports fans to enjoy the unique live experience of top-class darts at New Zealand's biggest darts party."
The two-day format this year sees the action begin on Friday August 23 as the PDC stars line up against the Oceanic representatives in round one.
The second day on Saturday August 24 sees the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final held as the destiny of the title is discovered.
Because of the flexibility of the Claudelands Arena, for the first time in New Zealand, a family zone will be available, and all bookings in this area must include at least one under-18.
