Vogel St Party back for 2019 with ‘Dunedin Icons’

Published: Fri 8 Feb 2019 11:13 AM
After a brief break last year, the Vogel Street Party is excited to announce it will be back and better than ever in 2019. Join us on 12 October 2019 to celebrate with the theme of 'Dunedin Icons'.
VSP Committee Chair Brendan Christie explains “The whole team has been working hard to ensure the sustainability of the event, and we are really excited to be back in action this year. We chose our theme of ‘Dunedin Icons’ after some research on social media, and we were amazed at the huge variety of interpretations of this; from places, animals and businesses, to businesses, music, art and literature. We are really excited to see how our community gets involved with this theme.”
The Dunedin Icons theme is an ideal platform to showcase Dunedin’s talented and diverse community. The theme of Dunedin Icons will be explored through a range of free events, interactive activities, entertainment, tours and food for party-goers to enjoy as they explore the area and celebrate what makes Dunedin great. Organisers are encouraging interested community and cultural groups to get in contact if they would like to get involved in this event and showcase a Dunedin Icon.
Committee secretary Josh George says “Dunedin is a diverse place and no single icon defines us. We are spoilt for choice by the special people, places and wildlife that are unique to our city. If you ask those with an affinity for Dunedin what is most iconic to them, you will receive a deluge of different answers. It's exciting to provide an opportunity for people to celebrate their Dunedin icons.”
Once again Vogel Street will be transformed into a pedestrian-only, family friendly space. Vogel Street will take on a party-like atmosphere and celebrate all that is great about Dunedin. People of all ages are encouraged to come along and experience some amazing local talent and learn a thing or two about our great small city.
A new look website is under construction at www.vogelstparty.nz, email vogelstreetparty@gmail.com for registration details if you’re keen to get involved, or have any queries.
