Writers' Cafe Auckland are expanding their commitment to the Auckland writing community with the opening of a pop-up
café this Monday.
The pop-up café provides Auckland writers with a welcoming and creative space where they can drop in for a coffee, work
on their writing projects, and meet and socialise with other local writers.
“One of the biggest challenges for aspiring writers is to find the time to focus on their writing project with all the
other challenges in daily life. The pop-up café provides writers with the opportunity to claim some space and time where
they can put other distractions aside and dedicate time to writing on a regular basis,” says Writers’ Café co-founder
Julie Sandilands.
Team member Shan Iyer is excited about building connections within the writing community. “I’m working on a novel, which
can at times be a very lonely and isolating process. Meeting other writers, writing together and talking about our
projects helps to keep me motivated,” he said.
Ellie Kivinen, one of the Writers’ Café tutors, spearheaded this initiative. “The Hum Salon is such a beautiful and
inspiring place, and I’m very excited that we have the opportunity to run a regular pop-up café here.”
Writers’ Café Auckland was established in 2018 with the aim of providing aspiring Auckland writers with useful
resources, skill building and networking opportunities. In addition to the pop-up café, Writers’ Café runs creative
writing courses and provides mentoring services for aspiring writers.
The pop-up café is open every Monday from 4pm until 9pm, at the Hum Salon on Grafton Road. For details of special
